Pozvánka na odborný seminář 12.3.2013

Katedra biologie srdečně zve nejen studenty, ale také jiné zájemce z řad akademických pracovníků a široké veřejnosti na odborný seminář Biomedical applications of dendrimers, který se koná dne 12.3.2013 od 12:00 hodin v přednáškové aule CN 152 v budově PF UJEP České mládeže 8. Seminář povede Dr. Anna Janaszewska, Deparment of General Biophysics, University of Lodz. Přednáška se koná v rámci projektu Parnet a série přednášek "Aktuální biologický seminář II".

Dendrimers, also known as cascade molecules, arborols, or starburst polymers are monodisperse macromolecules with a regular and highly branched three-dimensional architecture. They possess a large number of terminal groups and a globular shape and are polyvalent. Therefore, dendrimers are promising candidates for many types of biomedical applications. The toxicity of dendrimers is dependent on the functional groups at the surface. Cationic dendrimers often exhibit high toxicity, whereas anionic and neutral dendrimers show slight or no toxicity. Poly(amido amine) dendrimers (PAMAM) and the poly(propylene imine) dendrimers (PPI) are two most commonly used dendrimers. Recently, different kinds of dendrimers have been explored for their use in biomedical applications such as drug delivery, synthetic vaccination, magnetic resonance imaging or tissue engineering. In the Department of General Biophysics, University of Lodz (Poland) we are looking for dendrimers which are non-toxic, non-immunogenic, biopermeable (having ability to cross biobarriers), able to stay in blood circulation for the time needed to have the desired effect and able to target specific biological structures. We also study their biomedical applications.
