Doctoral study programs

Applied nanotechnology

A doctoral study program Nanotechnology follows in master study program Nanotechnology. The doctoral program has multidisciplinary structure necessary for up-to-date research in nanotechnologies and material sciences generally. The topics have necessary overlaps to another science fields for broad education. The study of nanotechnologies, nanomaterials and their applications would provide students with deep background in topics related to the doctoral thesis. The study topics will be divided to following groups:

  • Nanomaterial prepared by physical techniques
  • Nanomaterial prepared by chemical techniques
  • Bio nanotechnologies for bio sensing applications
  • Computer aided design of nanomaterial

A goal of the study is to prepare students with skills and knowledge in nano fields. The main interest will be on the techniques applicable in industry and not only in research laboratories as for example drugs, cosmetics, selfcleaning dyes, antibacterial products, biomedical materials, etc. The students should be well prepared for academic research and industry research developing new nano featured materials. It will be supported by obligatory industrial training period during the doctoral study. Students will be encouraged to participate in management and marketing courses organized by the university. Experts from industry will hold short lectures for the students.

Computer modelling in science and technology (study in the Czech and  English languages)

The study sets the aim to deepen the ability of doctoral degree candidate to understand, precisely formulate and solve challenging situations with the help of computer methods. Candidate will gain experience mainly on physical and mathematical models. It is certainly  possible to apply these methods in further cognate natural science and technology fields. Graduate will chiefly get employed as a science researcher, or a high school lecturer in physics and subjects which in their description and study use computer modelling. He can certainly get employment in other fields of independent creative activity.

General mathematical problems

Each graduate will considerably deepen his knowledge in one of the mathematic subjects. He further has the opportunity to address the issues of educational mathematics, or  continue in the field of mathematics itself. In the first case, he will undertake educational mathematics in a broader framework, so that he can creatively work in the relevant field at a department of mathematics of a higher education institution at preparing perspective teachers, or in creative way teach mathematics at secondary school. He will orient himself in new trends of pedagogy and pedagogical psychology, in didactics of mathematics, school education policies, philosophical aspects of natural sciences and education. Graduate will be capable of solving professional problems in theory and practice of teaching mathematics, will be able to introduce new educational procedures, critically evaluate them, develop models of teaching of mathematics or share in development of the theory of teaching of mathematics as a science discipline.  In the second case, his knowledge of mathematics or a cognate subject will be on such level that he can creatively work in the opted field at a department of mathematics of a higher education institution, academic or research institution. Each graduate will acquire skills of planning independent creative activity, investigate projects, formulate the aims of such projects, and search for theoretic and experimental methods leading to their solution, and will be capable of work in international teams.

Scholarships

The Faculty offers an elaborate system of students' scholarships. On satisfying all conditions of eligibility, students can earn a social scholarship, merit-based or a doctoral scholarship. There is also a possibility to use scholarships provided for international students mobility. Besides, there is an interesting offer of earning accommodation scholarship. While the amount of accommodation scholarship per one student allocated by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic makes approximately 650 Crowns, UJEP awards to the eligible students accommodation scholarship worth 950 per month. This way, with regard to the amount of accommodation scholarship, the University is ranked at the forefront among the Czech universities. The scholarship is awarded  depending on the accessibility of study place from the permanent residence, not depending on the type of accommodation which student opts for (hall of residence, private sector, own flat).

Along with the above scholarships, students with best study record are awarded  special unrepeated scholarships of the Mayor of Usti nad Labem, Mayors of local districts, the Mayor of Trmice, scholarship of the statutory city of Teplice etc.

Along with the afore mentioned scholarships, every year there are awarded so called motivating scholarships, intended for students of the second year of bachelor's degree program in selected study fields. Students, who have satisfied the conditions of the first year of study and meet the other conditions of scholarship regulations, in the second year get awarded special scholarship amounting to 5,000 crowns, with average record under 1,5 up to 10,000 crowns.

Satisfaction with study

According to questioner survey carried out yearly at graduation ceremony, 94% of respondents would again opt for the field they have studied, and 97% of respondents claimed they would again opt for this University and Faculty.
